Gourmet Restaurant
One of the few restaurants on the island of Rab open year – round, Velum is a favorite gathering place for locals and, during the season, tourists. It is located in Palit, near the town of Rab, in an easily accessible area with parking. The philosophy of owner and founder Nikica Španjol is to reinterpret traditional Rab and Mediterranean recipes using modern culinary techniques, executed by his wife Ksenija. The menu includes traditional island dishes such as “rapska grota“, brodetto, and štokalj (dry octopus) with eggs, as well as fresh fish, grilled meat, risottos, and pasta. As a starter, the tuna carpaccio is highly recommended, extremely fresh and light, seasoned only with premium olive oil, capers, and lemon. The grilled tuna steak is perfectly cooked and seasoned, retaining its juiciness and natural flavour, but their standout dish is shrimp risotto - creamy, aromatic, and rich in sea flavour. Special attention goes on pairing food with wines, mainly from Kvarner and Dalmatian wineries, with the owner playing a key role in recommending the perfect bottle or glass. The service contributes to a “home-like atmosphere,” an important part of the restaurant’s identity.
