Chef's Restaurant
The Skenderica restaurant in the village of Remete in the northern part of the city was founded in 1912. Its green terrace offers a beautiful view of the nearby vineyards and groves, while in the inner part the potash stove attracts attention. The restaurant is named after the women of the Skender family, who for decades ran a catering business based on traditional Zagreb dishes, which they offer even after Ana Lisak, successful in the catering business, took over the management of the restaurant. The place is a favorite place for family gatherings, there are white tablecloths on the tables, the napkins are linen, the atmosphere is cordial, and the staff is hectic. The menu is signed by two chefs, Mario Mihelj and Ivan Najdek, and the difference between the two culinary aesthetics can be seen in the serving: excellent soups - thick from sweet peas and clear beef with semolina dumplings - come to the table in German porcelain, while chicken pâté on tomato cream with crushed nuts, served in ceramics. On the other hand, duck breast on cauliflower puree, in red wine sauce, is minimalistically arranged, and the portion of roast veal and potatoes is truly huge. Here you can taste smoked ham with liptauer spread and horseradish, cheese, cream and bacon, breaded chicken with rizi bizi, šufnudle with beef steak and porcini mushrooms, homemade šnenokle and fine, warm strudels with cherries and apples, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. In short, you are lured by the forgotten flavors and aromas of old Zagreb.
