Snack bar Rio is one of the legendary bistros in Rovinj. Anyone who has been there once will definitely come back, which is why it is not always easy to get a table, especially in the summer months on the terrace in front of the sea, with a view of dozens of small boats. The interior with glass walls is small, so be sure to book in advance. Rio is still known for its staff, and especially for Davor Antolović, the maitre d’, better known as Čombe. Charming, witty, he talks to all the guests in all languages, but never at the expense of professionalism. The menu of Snack bar Rio changes depending on the seasonal offer and the daily catch. Among the appetizers you will always find the carpaccio and the tartare of fresh fish or scampi, which we highly recommend. The beef tartare is also excellent, and the slightly lighter bruschetta with burrata and anchovies is delicious. They also offer some classic local warm appetizers such as fuži (local pasta) with Boškarin meat (autochthonous beef breed) sauce or spaghetti with tomato, mozzarella and basil sauce. If you are into fish, ask for advice. We ordered an excellent tagliata of fresh tuna. Nicely sliced and presented on the plate, perfectly cooked on the outside, so that the crust was dark, the tuna kept a beautiful red colour. It was served with delicious mixed vegetables, potatoes and zucchini, sauteed on a pan. The wine list features excellent wines from local wineries. While you wait for your meal, order a glass of chilled sparkling wine and enjoy the view of the harbour and Rovinj.
