At its new address in Zagreb’s Petrinjska Street, the restaurant SOL, led by chef Mate Janković, continues with the same concept – a new interpretation of traditional Mediterranean and continental Croatian cuisine. Here, in fact, the famous Croatian dishes meet with methods of preparation typical of foreign cuisines – and all this in tapas dimensions. It is a modern bistronomy with elements of fine dining. The space is very urban, the decor is dominated by elements of industrial design, and the atmosphere is relaxed. It is precisely this balance between accessibility to the guest and culinary seriousness that makes this restaurant different from many in the neighbourhood. Mate Janković presents the traditional flavours through modern techniques and combinations, creating dishes that are both familiar and new. For example, the traditional Skradin risotto comes in the form of the Sicilian arancini, and Zagorje štrukli (pastry dough filled with cheese) in the form of Japanese gyoza. The menu is divided into sections of hot, cold and sweet tapas, which is great for the tourists who can discover the variety of local food - without overeating. The drinks menu is extremely rich and includes selected wines from continental Croatia, Istria, Kvarner, Dalmatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Slovenia, as well as a solid selection of cocktails. An important part of the concept is the experience of the restaurant as a place to meet and enjoy, rather than just a formal meal.
