According to the name of the restaurant, located at the Dalj bend along the banks of the Danube, one can infer that a grain mill once stood on this site. Stari Mlin (The Old Mill) is a spacious, simply furnished restaurant whose partially covered terrace overlooking the river, is an ideal spot for the region’s authentic dishes. These are traditional meals based on freshwater fish and meat, served in generous and very tasteful portions. The restaurant is well known for its delicious and silky texture garlic soup, served in a little pot made of freshly baked dough. Another specialty is carp strung on wooden rods (šaran u rašljama), which is roasted over an open hearth, prior order required. Delicious fiš-paprikaš (fish stew) is also prepared in cauldrons over the fire. A relaxed, almost family-like atmosphere prevails, and guests can pour themselves homemade fruit brandies. Among the grilled dishes, their stuffed pork tenderloin with potato wedges and warm flatbreads is particularly renowned. The dessert, pancakes “Stari Mlin” filled with fresh cheese and raisins, are topped with cream. The menu also includes pizzas from a wood-fired oven and vegetarian dishes with clearly listed ingredients. The wine list offers nearby wineries, paired excellently with the food.
