Gault&Millau's review 2026
Chef's Restaurant
Right on the town’s harbour promenade, with an impressive view of the sea and the islet of St. Nicholas, stands a restaurant that proudly carries a long tradition and an excellent reputation. During the summer months, having a lunch on the spacious terrace can be a challenge due to the heat and the crowds, but for the rest of the year that same terrace is irresistible—filled with the aromas of the kitchen and the warmth of sunny corners. The restaurant is a favourite spot among many business people that gladly bring their partners here to enjoy high-quality, impeccably prepared seafood and meat dishes. Daily fresh ingredients guarantee authentic flavours, so our choice fell on a first-class fish baked in salt and the Val de Mar risotto—rich with sweet prawns, complemented by tender asparagus and balanced with the pleasant bitterness of red radicchio. As a starter, we tried the scampi and prawns tartare— both so good that we kept debating which one we liked more. Dessert turned out to be the hardest decision, with every option sounding tempting. At the end, we went with an Istrian twist: the chocolate Motovun soufflé with truffles. It was a decision we didn’t regret. It was so delightful that we almost ordered another one to relive the experience. The wine list nicely reflects the richness of the Istrian terroir, while the selection of other drinks is respectable and broad enough to please a variety of tastes. Book a table!
