For many years, the only sushi restaurant in Rijeka, Taiyo is located in the city center, easily accessible near the main market and close to the waterfront and the Korzo promenade. The ambiance is pleasant, especially for groups of four or more, who can sit in booths or at low tables in a traditional floor-seating style. The menu offers a wide selection of sushi and other Asian dishes. To start, among the hot appetizers, rice flour dumplings are a great choice, steamed and filled with vegetables and shrimp or meat. The popular Poke Maguro is a delight of vibrant colors and exceptionally fresh ingredients, served on a base of well-seasoned rice with tuna tartare, avocado, edamame, mango, and lightly pickled wakame seaweed. The sushi selection includes nigiri, sashimi, temaki, hosomaki, uramaki, and futomaki, which can be ordered individually or as a combination. Among traditional desserts, their homemade Gomma Dango stands out, crispy rice flour balls filled with sweet anko bean paste and fried with sesame. In addition to standard drinks, the beverage menu offers a quality selection of sake, Japanese beer and whisky, as well as excellent teas. Taiyo is popular with all generations and regularly fully booked, offering a good balance of price and food quality.
