Gault&Millau's review 2026
Selected
Conceived as a restaurant where Japanese tradition is not interpreted strictly but through free flavor combinations, Torikaya is a modern and urban ramen bar with elements of Asian fusion. There are five types of ramen on offer - Tantanmen based on pork stock, Miso Chicken, Tempura Shrimp Ramen, Veggie Ramen and Beef Mazamen. Torikaya's cuisine likes stronger flavors, this can be seen in the first appetizer on the list (Spicy Tuna), and in the appetizer category, gyoza is also very interesting - one stuffed with chicken, shiitake mushrooms and exotic vegetables, and the others combine smoked tofu, shiitake, Chinese kale and ginger. Noodles are equal to ramen, and among the current ones on offer are Beef Udon (the base is marinated steak strips) and Tofu Dan Dan, which are interesting to vegetarians, but the nutty creaminess, smoked tofu and spiciness also make it a full-fledged main course. The wine list is small, but thoughtful: from the sparkling Terra Falconis Extra Brut and Galić's rosé to Romić's Frankovka and Krauthaker's Mercs. Of course, there are also two types of sake, signature cocktails that continue the Asian theme (Yuzu Collins or Tokyo Mule), and the special value of the drink menu is a selection of about 15 Japanese whiskeys. One of the great advantages of Torikaya is its location at the beginning of Petrinjska Street, so the terrace offers a view of the main square in Zagreb.
