Gault&Millau's review 2026

Located on the edge of the Medvednica Nature Park, above Gajnice, this family restaurant is housed in an old house, or rather the mill after which it was named, next to a stream, creating a homely and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant’s main asset is the huge terrace in this very nature, which is arranged so that every corner is next to some greenery or stream. Therefore it is not surprising that it is an extremely popular weekend destination, both for families and for larger groups and celebrations. The menu is based on the gastronomic traditions of northern Croatia and adapts to the season. They particularly stand out for their meat dishes and roasts, but they also have an excellent offer of domestic trout from the local stream, which are always fresh and juicy. The restaurant bakes homemade bread, štrukli (thin dough filled with cheese, eggs and sour cream boiled or baked), strudel and excellent pancakes. The wine list includes famous Croatian wines, but here they mainly drink excellent homemade wine. The restaurant has its own parking lot and it is definitely recommended to arrive by car with navigation, although it is well marked on the road. If you are coming on the weekend, be sure to book in advance.
