Gault&Millau's review 2026

One of the most beautiful terraces on the Adriatic islands, Villa Hotel Barbat offers a fusion of heritage and modern architecture, enriched with the scents of Mediterranean herbs and olive trees. Nested by the sea, next to a historic church, the restaurant features a covered loggia with a large aquarium filled with fresh fish and lobsters. The friendly and professional staff guide guests through their tasting menu or à la carte selections. While waiting for the meal, guests are treated to homemade artisanal bread and two of a kind premium olive oil - both produced in-house and dedicated to family members: the grandfather and grandson, as the symbols of past and future. We highlights rich flavourful seafood soup, packed with pieces of white fish and shellfish, as well as Kvarner scampi, available in various preparations. But grilled is the best way to savour their freshness and sweetness. Although seafood is the restaurant’s signature, they also serve a traditional dish from the island of Rab: slow braised lamb, cooked in a mutton broth, seasoned with cloves and nutmeg, and enriched with pine nuts, sage honey, and dried plums served with braised sour cabbage - creating a unique and hearty flavor combination, ideal for colder days and festive gatherings. The warm ambiance, high-quality wines, and delicious cuisine make Villa Hotel Barbat a must-visit when on Rab Island.
