Gourmet Restaurant
Wirtshaus means inn in German. This charming restaurant in the heart of the Gračani district is only 400 meters from the Sljeme cable car. It is simply decorated, with lots of details that bring extra warmth to the interior and on both terraces, while the cheerful staff contributes to the good atmosphere. The restaurant prepares traditional dishes that shaped the gastronomic identity of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, and are still indispensable on the tables of many families and restaurants. Liptauer, bear's garlic and horseradish with warm homemade bread, salami and bacon, are a great start to an Austrian feast. Viennese tafelspitz, all fragrant with fine beef and vegetables, is enough for two people, veal Viennese with cranberries is prepared superbly, as well as veal goulash with homemade dumplings. Here you can taste clear beef soup with semolina dumplings. Homemade blood sausages with cabbage are a winter favorite, while a refreshing Styrian salad with chicken strips breaded in pumpkin seeds is an ideal summer meal. Their apples in a bathrobe with cranberries and vanilla ice cream, apple strudel and Kaiserschmarrn (Imperial crumble) with apple mousse are irresistible desserts. The wine list offers sparkling and sweet wines and selected labels of dry Austrian and Croatian wines. But there is also a quality, drinkable wine of the house for every recommendation. Wirtshaus is a place where you will be happy to return due to the quality of the food, atmosphere and prices.
