Although it is located almost right on the seashore, Zlatna Ribica in Brodarica is by no means an ordinary beach restaurant – but an elegantly decorated place with an incredibly rich offer of food and wine. The menu is dominated by fish and seafood, but there are also a dozen meat dishes on offer, of which only the Dalmatian bržolica (cutlet) is associated with the cuisine of this region (the rest are various steaks, medallions, breaded meat like Zagreb and Viennese steaks). The seafood offer starts with a greeting from the kitchen – foamy homemade sardine pâté – and continues with shellfish, crabs, fish that the guest chooses from a huge aquarium in the central room. All the fish comes from the catch of local fishermen. However, the method of preparation is not particularly imaginative and original, it is a standard preparation on the grill, or a brodetto, or a buzara or, alternatively, in the form of risotto and pasta sauce. We had a dish of mixed grilled fish. The best was the perfectly grilled big and juicy Adriatic squid. Desserts are equally standard (several types of pancakes, tiramisù and cheesecake), but we loved their almond parfait with a very intense flavour and not too sweet. The wine list has an equal number of white and red wines (mostly Dalmatian), and they only serve one white and one red by the glass from the Tudić winery (the restaurant’s owner). The restaurant has its own parking lot, a spacious terrace with a view of the island of Krapanj, but on hot days it is more pleasant to sit inside in the air-conditioned space.
