Winery presentation by Gault&Millau

At the heart of the family estate in the Baranja village of Karanac, run by the Szabó family, stands a modern winery whose roots date back to 1633. This is the year when their Hungarian ancestors planted the first vines in the Baranja region, as evidenced by the family coat of arms from that period. Contemporary form of the business was developed in 1998, when the Szabó couple established the agricultural enterprise Saboprodukt. Later their daughters Anasztázia and Andrea, along with their husbands, joined the fully family business. Across a total of 4.5 hectares of vineyards located on the southern slopes of Banska Kosa, they cultivate a wide range of white and red grape varieties, from Graševina, Pinot Blanc, Traminer, and Muscat Ottonel to Frankovka, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Based on these varieties, they produce a range of wines, including varietal wines, rosé (e.g. Fantázia), and cuvée labels. In the courtyard of the old family house, they opened a tasting room in 2015, which can accommodate around fifty guests with prior reservation. In addition to wine tastings, guests are offered some homemade products, as well as vineyard and cellar tours.
