Winery presentation by Gault&Millau

The Sontacchi family, owners of the first organic winery in the Kutjevo region, moved here 130 years ago from Trento. They were traders, worked on the railway, had a butcher shop, and started making wine in 1900. Then Tomaso Sontacchi, a winegrower on Baron Turković’s Vinkomir estate, planted his first vine. In the meantime, the etymology has been lost in phonetics, but the winery has left the “old” surname. The Sontacchi winery has a picturesque courtyard like something out of a Balašević (famous singer-songwriter) poem, and a stone chimney in the shape of a wine bottle. It is dedicated to preserving the microbiome of the soil, vineyards and wine, with an emphasis on its main varieties - Graševina, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. All wines have a label of organic certificate. They produce Tomaso wine from the Zweigelt variety, using the method their ancestors used to make it, then the orange Superslav aged in Slavonian oak. They are also known for Kitokret, made from the Cabernet Franc variety from the Venje location, which is aged in Slavonian oak for two years. They have a tasting room as part of the winery, and along with the wines you can taste the delicacies from the Zlatna dolina (Golden Valley), in the Superslav bistro owned by Krunoslav and Tena Sontaki.
