The low Baranja house, covered by flowers, in the centre of Karanac is full of surprises, and one of them is a descendant of the protected modra kavčina vine which entered the Guinness Book of Records as the World’s oldest Grapevine. It was given to Julijana Seleš Novački and her husband Oliver Novački by a Maribor winemaker, convinced that they would be the best ones to take care of it and nurture it. There is also an old grape press, a forty-meter-deep well, a roadside post from 1846, an outdoor and indoor tasting room, and a shop dominated by huge wooden shelves filled with bottles of wine, as well as honey and various souvenirs for a complete experience of Baranja. They founded the winery in 2012, and today they have 13 hectares of land on five prime wine-growing locations. Graševina grows on 10 hectares, and the rest are vines of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Blue Frankish, Traminer, Chardonnay and Rhine Riesling. Their winery also produces the limited edition of Graševina barrique, the Danube Champion for 2025. And since Oliver Novački is a passionate chef, he prepares Baranja specialties for his friends, guests and visitors to the tasting room. A prior notice is required, even a few days in advance in the summer.
