Winery presentation by Gault&Millau
Planina (The Mountain) is a story of Baranja’s narrow streets and picturesque houses/gator (underground cellars) written among others by the Josić winery from Zmajevac with its top - quality food and wines. The cellar from 1935 stores wines made from Graševina, Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Merlot. In the tasting room that looks like a traditional living room in Baranja, you can try the Cabernet Franc Art and the Cuvée Art Superior. The labels for those limited editions were designed by the art photographer Stanko Abadžić. It’s hard to say what is more impressive – the spacious restaurant with a large terrace, the tasting room with the shop, the huge gator (underground cellar) under three houses, the perfect Baranja cuisine or the new modern winery that towers over the romantic surduk (narrow street/passage), which is home to the oeno gastronomic empire of Damir Josić. The winery has a thousand square metres and a capacity of up to 300 thousand bottles per year. Josić wines are made from authentic Baranja varieties that ripen in ancient vineyards on Banova kosa. The grapes come from their own 25 hectares, but they purchase some quantities of Blue Frankish, Graševina, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay from their subcontractors.
