Winery presentation by Gault&Millau
The headquarters of the Kaptol Winery in the town of the same name near Požega, at the slopes of the Papuk Nature Park, is also the center of their production and wine tourism. A young but ambitious family wine story began fifteen years ago, when Barbara Ljevar and her family returned from Austria to their native Slavonia and bought a small vineyard in the Kutjevo region. It soon grew into a serious business vision – the construction of an authentic Slavonian winery that will present the potential of one of the most important Croatian wine regions through its varieties. Kaptol is often called a “women’s winery”, because the key players are Barbara Ljevar, her daughter Nataša, and oenologist Anita Matijević, along with a team of young experts and enthusiasts. Grapes comes from their vineyards, and some grapes are purchased from other winegrowers in the Kutjevo area. They produce around 50,000 liters of wine per year – mostly Graševina, followed by Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé (a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) and Cuvée (red wines) – blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. As part of the winery, they have opened a boutique tasting room, suitable for smaller groups (up to 20 people) with prior notice required.
