Winery presentation by Gault&Millau
The Zlatno brdo (Gold mountain) winery is located in the picturesque Zmajevac, the wine capital of Baranja. In the silence of its deeply dug cellars, respecting the tradition, it organically produces authentic and world-award-winning wines of exceptional quality from Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris and Graševina. “I am not from Baranja, but when I felt this soil under my feet while walking with a friend, I knew that Baranja would be my last destination, Zmajevac the last stop of my life, and wine my new and greatest challenge”. The owner of the winery, Goran Matijević, is a former forester who knew nothing about wine, but wisely surrounded himself with the best experts and began producing top-quality wines. He won a gold medal at Decanter for his first wine, the Gold Cuvée, which was proof that he was on the right track. Wine and winemaking appeared to him in his mature years. He is inclined towards small batches and annually produces up to 40 thousand litres of wine, which he keeps in a cellar from the end of the 19th century. He is proud of his six hectares of vineyards above Zmajevac and he organizes guided tours for his guests. They can also visit the winery and taste the wines and the local specialties in a small tasting room for about twenty people.
